Your mind can be ready for healing while your body is still bracing for impact. If you’ve ever thought, “Why am I doing the work but still feel tense?” or “Why does rest make me feel guilty?” I’m speaking straight to that gap between what you know and what your nervous system believes.

I walk through a simple, trauma-informed way to understand why real healing can feel subtle and slow. When you’ve spent years pushing through, being the dependable one, or learning that support isn’t safe, your body may need time to test the room before it relaxes. That doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means your system is wise, and somatic healing starts with safety, not pressure.

We also talk about the difference between forcing and inviting, and why “more” isn’t always the answer. If you’re stuck in the cycle of another course, another reading, another deep dive, I offer a grounded reset: water, breath, a walk outside, turning your phone off, saying no, eating real food, and letting yourself feel your emotions without turning rest into a productivity strategy. I share three reflection questions you can sit with to build nervous system regulation and hear your intuition through the body’s signals.

If this hits home, share it with a friend who’s tired of fighting themselves, then subscribe and leave a review so more people can find gentle, practical support. What helps your body feel safe enough to soften today?

Welcome And The Core Question

SPEAKER_01

Welcome back to the Spiritual Spotlight series. I am Rachel Garrett, and today's quick tip is for anyone who has ever wondered why am I doing the healing work, but I still feel tense? Why am I resting, but I still feel guilty? Why do I want to receive support, but part of me wants to run the other way? And here's the truth: your body may need time to trust healing. And I know that may sound strange because we often think healing should feel like instant relief. We imagine this big breakthrough moment where the clouds part, the angels sing, the nervous system gets a vacation package, and suddenly we are floating through life with perfect boundaries, glowing skin, and a fully regulated response to every email. Wouldn't that be fun? But real healing is usually much more subtle than that. Sometimes healing begins

with your body realizing I am safe enough to soften. And that can definitely take some time, especially if you spent years pushing through, holding it together, and being dependable on being the dependable one or overriding what your body has been trying to tell you. Your mind says, Okay, I'm ready to heal, but your body may say, Wonderful, I'll need three to five business years. And that does mean that does not mean that you're broken. It means that your body is wise. Your nervous system has been collecting information your whole life. It remembers the times you had to stay quiet. It remembers the seasons where you've had to carry too much. It remembers when rest was not available, when you, when support did not feel safe, when your needs were inconvenient, or where you had to be the strong one because no one else was volunteering for that position. So when you finally get to a point where you're creating space for healing, your body may not immediately relax. It may need to scan the room first. It may need to test the safety. It may need to see if there is a new way to, you know, actually, it may wait to see is this actually real? Is this actually happening? So this is why we're gonna say that healing does not have to be forced. You do not have to drag your body through alignment like an override toddler through Target. You get to invite your body into safety. Now, this is a very different energy between forcing and inviting. Forcing can say, why aren't you over this yet? Inviting says, I'm here with you. Forcing says, you should be further along. Inviting says, we can go slowly. Forcing says, get it together. Inviting says, you're safe enough to soften. And so that is really where true healing begins. So today's quick tip is this: before you ask yourself, what do I need to fix? Ask yourself, what does my body

need in order to feel safe? That one question can truly change everything because sometimes your next level is not another course. I'm so guilty of that. I've taken so many courses. I definitely have shiny thing syndrome, being a spiritual practitioner. Oh, I gotta learn this. Oh, I gotta take this course. Oh, I gotta be certified in this. Oh, I need to be trained in this modality. It gets a little ridiculous. Another reading, you know, and I do believe he readings can be amazing and wonderful. But if you're hopping around from reading to reading to get the exact answer that you're looking for, that's too much. Like that's not you receiving the message that's desperately seeking for a specific answer that you already know probably within your soul, but you aren't willing to hear it. So another deep dive, another shadow work marathon, or another late-night internet search titled, Am

I Spiritual Awakening or Am I Just Exhausted? Sometimes your next level is water, a breath, a walk outside, turning your phone off, saying no, eating real food, letting yourself cry. Nothing wrong with feeling your emotions. We have to feel our emotions in order to acknowledge them, release them, and move forward. Letting yourself rest without turning rest into a productivity strategy. How many of us are guilty of that? Because your body is not an obstacle to your spiritual path. Your body is part of the path. Your intuition is not floating somewhere outside of you, waiting for you to transcend your human your humanity. Your intuition often speaks through your body, the tight chest, the soft belly, the deep excel, the tension in your jaw. Like I know for me, like I definitely feel tension in my jaw all the time, or in my like, oh, like in my shoulders.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm like, oh my god, it's too much. Sorry.

SPEAKER_01

So sorry, I went off on a tangent there. So the feeling of this is just not for me. That's okay. You you're okay to say no. It's a complete sentence. The feeling of this feels safe. Your body is communicating

to you all the time. You just need to be able to tune in to listen to your body to really receive those messages. But if your initial nervous system is in survival mode, it's definitely gonna be so hard to hear that communication clearly. Everything can feel like it's urgent, everything can feel like a threat. Everything can feel like, oh my God, this is just too much. I'm just too overwhelmed. So instead of pushing yourself to receive more guidance, start by creating more safety. So I'm gonna give you three reflecting questions for today. So, number one, where am I expecting myself to heal faster than my body feels ready for? Another question. What would help me to feel supported today? And finally, can I let healing be gentle instead of forced? Just sit with those. You do not have to answer them perfectly. You just have to be willing to listen. Like you just have to be willing to turn on your, you know, turn on your your spiritual ears. Just sit with those. You don't need to turn them into homework. You don't have to write 72 journal pages about it. Just notice where your body, what does your body do when you ask those questions? Does it soften or

does it tighten? Does it, you know, feel restrictive or do you feel expansive? Do you does it feel emotional? Does it feel relieved? The noticing of what's going on in your body, that's part of the healing. So today, let this be your reminder. Your body does not need to be rushed into safety, it needs to be loved into it. And sometimes the most spiritual thing that you can do is to stop fighting yourself long enough for your body to realize that, you know, maybe I'm safe now. Maybe I don't have to brace for the next thing. Maybe healing can be gentle. So thank you as always for joining me for the spiritual spotlight. Quick tip if this resonated with you, just take a moment today, place one hand on your heart and take a breath and simply say, I do not have to force my healing. I can soften into safety one breath at a time. I'll see you next Friday.
