Hello, everyone. Welcome to another episode of It's me, not you. Today we are on a field trip, and we are at the Trojan Cottages, which is located on Caskill Bay at Cleverdale. So we're going to talk about this real quick. Is run by the Stickney brothers. It featured electric lights and large porches that had a good view of the lake. Advertised in 1928 were Catholic and Protestant churches to stores, dance halls, bowling, fishing, bathing on a large sandy beach, and sightseeing parties to any party on the lake. One day parties were also option. Get this, rates were $20 per week for one room, $18 a week for two transients, paid $3.50 for outdoors. Lodging was a dollar. Breakfast was $0.50. Dinner, one point twenty five cents. And supper was $0.75. It does feel super high. I mean, no, but for that time, $20 seems kind of like a lot. So this is one of the early hotels in the Adirondacks. The owner was harold l sickney. He added larger porches and offered non leaking boats and canoes. So I have my two amazingly talented psychic mediums here. Jake, Paul, Melissa Neely. Because they're my awesome co host and they're going to be taking it away. Melissa, tell us all about it. Still, like tuning in, but it cracked me up that the non leaking boats. Like what? You had to pay less for a leaking one and then switch back. They offered both of you go drowning. For the non leaking one. We've got our 1970 edition now with slightly less leak. So this is a camp that is in my partner's family home, and it's been owned by many generations. It was a double decker porch that's no longer it's now a private residence. So I'll make sure to post up pictures. Was there a building that was closer, like over here? Because they're saying it went out further this way. Okay. Yes. And it's weird to see that there's a woman who's walking on what's not there. Oh, wow. So it's probably the upstairs deck. Yeah. And it's walking over us, but they're saying that there's not a deck above us. There used to be a deck above us. Yeah. And next door was like a general store where they sold, like, milk and everything. Restaurants down here. There's a church. Bunch of history up here. People used to and this went out further somehow there was a different docking system or it went out further. It may have. That dock has been replaced most times, actually. I have pictures of the boys replacing the dock. Can I see the photos? Of course. How about for you, Jake? Yeah, so for me, I'm just like, really tapping into I feel like I'm over here at the other end of the house. Double. Let me see if that's the same side. Yeah, double. Yeah. Oh, yeah, you're right. So it did go out both sides. And even towards the front. I wonder how many rooms. This used to be I feel like. It'S a lot because I can hear. And see, like, a hustle and bust. A couple of women, like, hustling around with trees. I hear the rattling of dishes. Yeah. That's really interesting. And there was tea time. Do you see the tea? And I think that was something that they did on the porch because I could hear the rattling of the porcelain. I almost feel like it was economy. Rich, richer kind of levels of how much money you had. Yeah. And if you were up higher, you. Could get the T. Yeah. And down was a little more like everyday kind of a thing. And somehow there's a servant side to things. But the servants feel immigrant. Yeah. And if you go to the back of the house, there is like a serving area where they have an actual pantry where they used to serve. They bet you that's where they probably. Used to work because it feels like Irish like immigrant servants. Yeah. Absolutely. Not. English servants. We don't serve anyone. Did you hear it? I didn't hear that one. I'm sitting here and I'm, like, turning my attention. I feel like I can just see a bunch of men just sitting here, like, fishing, just like shooting the shit. And they're kind of distracting me over here. But when I looked over at the deck, I was like, no, that's not where they're sitting, though. So it looked like kind of foreign where I was looking. That is so interesting. They keep showing me towards the mountains. The mountains have a lot of funky stuff going on, too. There was an airplane crash over there in the mountains. That would have been later, though. Later, yeah. They didn't see that. But just how different. None of this is here. None of this is here. It's so interesting to kind of sit into their business. This land may have been pushed out further and it's been back. Yeah. I feel like there's because if this photo is this part of the house that we're sitting on with all those people, we couldn't all stand in a group like that. We'd be in the water and then look at how much more space there is behind them. And there's trees. No, you're right. There was a tree in the middle that now has oh, I can see. It in the picture. That tree is now gone. Right. But look, there was another further out. The land should be almost to where the ends of the docks are. Yeah. Because it looks like the point of view of the photo has been taken, like, right here at the spot. Like the grill in the waterline. Right. They are a little noise. The flight pole is not out. They're little annoyed. That what? The flight pole is not still out. I don't know if there's one. There's one right there on the dock. Yeah, but it's not over here. Okay. There was a different one. It's so interesting. So what kind of things do you think happened here? Much smaller rooms. Like tiny rooms. Yeah, to get more people. Like, half secretaries, too, were the traveling ones. Do you think they came up for, like, business type of conventions and whatnot, or is it for? I feel more like the women were here as partners to the business. I have to roll my eyes, because to sit on the porch and do their reading kind of a thing. And it's an interesting dynamic, too, because I feel like I see a lot of people just kind of stacked up on top of each other too. That's so cool. I feel like I keep looking over at that drawing of the photo, too, and it keeps kind of, like, coming to life. Like that one music video. What's that one? Rachel's trying to find a guest. I'm trying to find other guests. Everyone calm. We're making this into a live show. Yeah, but Upstairs has a lot of Victorian women. Yeah, you've got it's. Interesting, because you feel different time period. Yeah, there are. But I do feel like the Victorian women are kind of the ones that are taking responsibility for the house now. Almost as if they kind of caretake it. And they're saying they used to have much nicer pillows than what you have. Oh, I would agree. They were down pillows. So nice because the fabric that they're wearing is just very clean and crisp, so I feel like they could just look they're kind of looking down at me. The iron, too. Like the hot iron, I guess. I've never thought about how they heated up their irons before. Yeah, right on. Like the yeah, right on the what do you call it? Is it cast iron? Yeah. And was there a fireplace inside that's missing, or is there still a fireplace? There's not a fireplace inside, but I. Can ask you guys. Keep talking. Yeah. It almost just feels like there was some kind of, like, way for the smoke to get out. There was a big stove. There's another man, too, that's hanging out around here. It's interesting because I don't know if he is a residual, but he seems to be someone who I don't know. The owners must have known him because it seems like he's just kind of, like, hanging out, and he's not exactly paying the full rent, but they're still allowing him to be here. Like, he's almost working as keep, maybe. But he's interesting. Like, maybe he must have worked as, like, a tradesman or something. He's a good guy, but I don't think he was super reliable for projects being completed. Yeah. Oh, yeah. He's probably like 27. I would say 27 smoker. But then again, who wasn't, right? He died early. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Died from an accident. Was there any tragedies or anything that happened? Yeah, I think he died from an accident. The worker. Yeah, I feel like I find him around here, but I don't think it was right here on the property. But I do feel like it was around here because he wasn't a man that traveled far. I almost don't know what it was. Was it some kind of I'm almost thinking, like, something toppling, older. You're saying there was a chimney for where they used to smoke stuff out there? That's what I was saying. Okay. Oh, yeah, you're right. There is a chimney in the back. Was there a fireplace here? There's a fire pit, but not a fireplace. But the chimney was responded because I could just see the chimney. Okay. What did they think about the current state of affairs now? It seems like there's different trains of thought. So the circle of women that are kind of taking responsibility for the house now it seems like they're kind of okay with the quietness. But there are still I feel like I'm seeing the residuals of the people that would work at the house. And it seems like they're still trying to do stuff on their own, almost as if they're trying to move furniture and trying to clean things. So I'm actually saying that there was a fireplace built in the back of the wall. Yeah. In the back of the camp. That's so interesting, too. So one of the ladies here, right in the back of my head, they were saying that there was one woman that they would specifically they didn't really care for her too much because she was kind of, like, talked down at them because they were the working class. And they would steal her cigarettes and they would steal her cigarettes, but then they would have to burn them because there's something about, like, they were nicer cigarettes and you couldn't just smoke it and just pretend like you could afford those ones. So it's almost like they would have to hide the rest of it, like, if there was some kind of color on it or some kind a filter to it. But that's interesting. They keep talking about how they would just sneak and steal and share one. I want to look stuff up, because one of them is talking about the Titanic, and I'm like, would that have been was that 1906? I'm not good with dates. Oh, it might have been. Is it 1906, or was it I don't really know. I'm not good with numbers, because one of them is saying, like, oh, my family died with the Titanic, because she's making me feel Titanic levels for how. The classes were taught. 1912, and this is from 1928. Okay. Absolutely. Yeah. She's just talking about losing her family, and that's why she's here. And people used to come up from Troy via trolley, and they would write up in the front of it, because all of this used to be like, you guys are right. There used to a roadway, like, kind of in the front of all of these camps. And she's just writing her letters, like, to back home. But she came here because she feels English. She couldn't be in England anymore. She's just sitting one of the chairs here and writing her letters. Do you ever smell rose or, like, perfumey rose? Yes, that's her. Wow. And it's not a play on rose of Titanic either. That just clicks for my brain. Rose is a very distinct for me. And there's no rose. It's a very distinguished there's not a very distinguished smell because when you use the Young Living Rose Essential Oil, it's so strong and so pungent. Every now and again, you do get a whip of it. It's interesting. So I tried kind of like, tapping over to the other house, over to the side, and there's a man that's in there and he is not interested in me tapping in. No, he's the one that did not want you going over there. Interesting. And I'm not saying he was, like, super old, but he was just, like, very not interested in me. And he's not interested in any of my hoochie shorts either. Well, she's yelling at me because I am showing my feet and apparently to show stockings would have been just a morbid travesty. And here I am with my toes hanging out. Yes. And my sandals. So us in our casual wear is being definitely frowned upon. Yes. He gave me, like, a side eye because he was looking at my little red highlights that I got going on right here. And he's, like, looking at me like. But he was here last time with you and you had a was he. The preacher for the church? I don't know, because he feels very judgy. Oh, God. Yeah. Very judgy and very much like he. Was like Helen Brimstone. Yeah. There's something very authoritative about him. Like what he said went I will also say, though, not the kindest and personal quarters, though I feel like the people close close to him behind closed doors would have known that he was not very kind, but he would have been kind to the public. Oh, yeah. So, like fake fake to the community and abusive and closed doors. Yeah. It's an interesting contrast. It's just like socializing would even help out, but when it comes to home, he shouldn't have to do anything. Yeah, very much. Serve me. That's a very interesting contrast there. Yes. What are you getting, Melissa? You're looking over there intently. Well, what they're giving me is he feels like masses. And I'm like, who's that? That's the judge that accused other witches in Hong Mall. Oh, wow. So he's either a magistrate or he is a preacher. And he hates this. I'm trying to figure out hates what? This. What we're doing. Reading any of it. I'm sorry. Yeah. I don't know what it is, but I'm trying to figure out what it might be. But ever since I stepped into the house. Wicked, like, heartburn right here, but, like, burning, like, right up here. So something like esophageal, maybe? Or maybe, like, really bad drinkers. So kind of like just kind of. Like oh, well, let me ask you, would it be Bob's dad? No, we're not in that time frame. No, not in that time frame. Because this is somebody who's kind of. Like, making me feel that, like, intentionally. Yeah, definitely. And you're feeling it, too? Yeah. When you were going to go over there, it was like no. Yeah, she told me. No. Yeah. That's so interesting. Yeah. Something with, like, the esophagus. Something here or over there? I think over there. Okay. Over here. Really? Not any of the spirits are interested in making me uncomfortable, which is interesting. Some of the ladies are a little bit unsure about the way that I'm dressed today, but that's fine. Well, you feel like they're more welcome. Yeah, they are. And you know what? It's because I think that a lot of the spirits here are so used to seeing different people coming in and out. More of a boarding house feel. It is, yeah, like a hostel, you. Know, that could be fun. Do you airbnb this? We rent it out, yes. Okay. Because you should do it as, like, a boarding house. Have a little fun with that. We've had the same tenants every year for the past ten years. I love it. And even just calling it, like, the boarding house or something, I think they're giggling. That's really cute. It wouldn't change it for them. And it would be interesting to make it more of like, because right now we have families that rent out the whole camp, and maybe if they just rent out a room, it'd be a little bit different. Yeah. There's something like they missed the nostalgia. I almost think community, because we don't sit with strangers at tables. We don't need one restaurant. I know that's like that in Saratoga. Yeah. And they had to in the boarding hall. You had to you had to get to know people. You had to be it's almost like community. Like bringing back community. Yeah. And they did. They're saying they all would sit around the table together at dinner time. It wasn't little tables where you had your own table, your own family, whatever, that big table that they would all have to sit and be pleasant for. Yeah. It's funny because I keep walking around the house, and right here at this table, it's like there's an older guy with his cup of coffee, and he keeps on just trying to catch you for conversation. He'd be like, oh, weather's beautiful today. Who's like, oh, how about that? Whatever's going on? I feel like I get like I'm trying to almost avoid him because I don't want to have to talk to him, but he's, like, trying to get you into conversation. He's like your one grandparent that will just strike you up at the worst times. That is. So any maybe pieces of advice or anything that they maybe want to share? Yeah, let me see. I love watching Jake and Melissa work. They're both really into this, and it's really cool to watch. Well, I mean, the letter writing woman is just really she's so sad, and she just keeps writing letters to her loved ones, and I know that that's not something that we tend to do. So there is an art to writing letters to people or sending cards to people or just doing a postcard, kind of bringing some of that back. It's practical, and there's still, like, reasoning for it, because she's just saying, you just don't know when things can change abruptly. Now, let me ask you this. Is she a spirit that is choosing to stay here, or is she earthbound? She doesn't feel stuck. This is just where she wants to be. Okay. It's like, after all of the tragedy of stuff, this is her home place. Okay. So she's just writing and rocking, and she's finally dressed, but she was young, and this is just where she was sent. There is a woman who would make her rounds here seasonally, doing some kind of companionship work, and she was just telling me that she would keep cinnamon and vanilla in the drawer of her dresser where she had her undergarments. Yes. For the aromatherapy. Can you guys tell which room it might be that she was in? Yeah, I'm like, right up here. This front one? Yeah. And I think she was fond about that particular room too. Can we put cinnamon and vanilla up there? If you're trying to have some suitors come over, that's her advice for a successful business. She's saying vanilla. She's saying vanilla and cinnamon. Cinnamon sticks. Yeah, because they wouldn't have had essential oils and stuff, and laundry would have been. I love that. Is there anything that we should do maybe, to honor the spirits that are here that are maybe we're sharing space with them? I almost want to say there's one woman who keeps looking around for her compact. So, like, a silver, like, antique compact she keeps looking for with, like, a pressed powder? No, I don't think it's here, but it's almost like she keeps looking around upstairs for it, so I almost want to put one out for her or something. Yeah, that'd be cute. Yeah, I like that. Where should I put the second floor or the third floor? Second floor is where she's looking for it. So a silver compact, some vanilla, some cinnamon if I want to get my jollies on. Melissa, what about anything else they missed? The trays. Like, the trays and the serving trays? Yeah, in a nice teapot. Like, you could put something out in that bureau to have where you have the paper plates, which they're just like, what is this? Rachel doesn't like doing dishes, but yeah. Like more of that English tease. Okay. And you have English in your family? I do. Because you should know better. You should have this. It's not me. This isn't my family home. It doesn't matter. It's your energy. That's part of it. That's so funny. So one of the women keep on kind, like, trying to talk to both of you. She was like goat milk. Goat milk is so good for the skin. She keeps saying. And she keeps, like, lathering it on her. I don't know why they keep talking about goat milk for skin. It is good for skin. That is so funny. Moisture is very hole. Swear. She keeps going on and on about the goat milk for it. And then there's one man who keeps on rubbing on lemons in his teeth. He was like, yeah. So the stains don't get in you. The stains don't get in your teeth from the pipe. Yeah. I love it. Okay, so you're right. There is a lot of English in my family. Yes. And I do know better because my grandma I have a lot of china. You would bring not the familial, but you have another set that would be fine to put got you. I hear you. No, I understand. Right. Yeah. Because you don't want your families to break or whatever. Not that that would and it would bring them a level of their tea time. And they did. They had, like, the iced tea kind of a thing as well. Yeah. Does woman say something about a specific fabric to wipe them off with? Because she's very hot headed about, like, the cheesecloth, maybe. But something like after you would wash the dishes, how they would get a fog to them. She was like, I hate a fog to them. You have to use a very specific type of cloth. It's not a silver cloth, but it feels like the microfiber that we have feels like that. Obviously. Maybe silk. No, it's not silk. I don't think we know it. I don't know it. I don't familiar with it. But she's very adamant about, oh, make sure you're wiping them around and you have that very specific cloth, but it's like a light white, tan light wool. Is it like a really finely spun. I wonder if maybe it is, because. It keeps showing me the sheep. Because she keeps showing me a fabric. That she would have been used for. All of them. You wouldn't have, like, just a million of them around. You would just have some nice ones, and you would wipe them down. It's almost like finally. Yes. I like that. Oh, I love that. I just saw there's a little boy, actually, someone that's doing embroidery. That's doing embroidery. But the other people would make fun of him because it was just not necessarily what you would do at the time. He keeps sneaking off, actually, around here. He would hide around the house, and he would do the little embroidery. Yeah. Is there anything that we might find that's up here that we're not aware of? Something in a wall. They're being clear with that, but I wouldn't go tearing your wall. No. Now, we have been told that somebody was murdered up here in a funk house. Is that something that you guys see. Or no, not anything that I'm seeing. And it could just mean that that energy is cleared and moved on because someone just said people are murdered everywhere. Right, exactly. And this is like George, so there. Are a lot of people, of course. But no, they're just showing me, like, the stitching of time that's been healed. That situation healed because that was a long time ago. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. The lands, actually you've got a lot of nice nature spirits, too, that seem to be kind of content with the area right now. They're like, yeah, you know what? It's been built upon, but they're kind of okay with it. Okay. Yeah. Anything else before we wrap up our first field trip episode? No. This is actually really quaint, and I just am sitting here, and I'm almost looking around, like, missing, like, seeing people coming in and out. Yeah. There's a sense of just missing that traffic coming through and just, like, kind of talking and hitting up conversation with anybody. Yeah, we don't do that. That is pretty cool. And other countries do a lot more of that. They do. I think you guys have brought up some really amazing things. Now, what do you see? I don't see anything. I don't see anything. What do I feel? See whenever I feel like I'm on the spot, well, I feel energy, like, right here, and then I feel a lot of energy in here, and then I need room, and I feel like a lot of conversations, and I feel like this kid wants us to wrap up this episode. So on our next field trip, rachel will make sure to be more open. Thank you both, Melissa and Jake, so much for allowing us a little bit of your gift. I appreciate it so much. Thank you, Paul. Thank you. You guys have a great day.
